Effects of Media

The effects of media is so great because of the technology now and I wouldn’t be surprise if one day we have a movie screen made out of projections coming out of one small ball. Though we have better playing experience not to mention that because of wifi function we get to play Wii and have a whole new experience somehow we just want more. Something like wearing a goggle and can enter a game like the anime .hack where players needs to wear this goggle thing to enter the game world. It’s a whole new fun thing when you get to really be in the characters point of view and move mentally. But however too much technology might also be a problem, as we know that we already have robots but it’s not really moving very smoothly but someday we might even be able to see robots as maids like the ones we seen in IRobot.

The media that people always gets to see are from TV, media that comes from books, movies and games are very different from one another, movies and even TV now have 3D effects and soon maybe even for computer it will be 3D soon.

A movie are usually made using books like harry potter but still if anyone that reads the book before watching the movie will find fault in the movie itself whereas people that didn’t read the book and watch the movie first will find the movie done extremely well.


when I watch shows like G.I Joe the graphics and visual effects are so good that when I watch older movies it’s like all weird and so just imagine at that time itself when these were the best graphics during that time. Surround sound plays an important role as well when we watch movie, in order to experience at first hand sound is definitely needed. Now that we even have surround sound function in Mp players and even ear phones it’s so cool and people just can’t do without it.

Horror movies with sound effects scares people and even though people know they would be watching a horror movies and be still afraid and dare not stay in the room alone, they still want to watch because horror shows thrills them and some people says it feels good. Comparing the different genre of movies I have watched so far gives me different movie experience. The recent movie that I’ve watched IP Man: The legend is born was really entertaining, when I first watched the trailer of the show I wasn’t quite impressed with the trailer but decides to watch anyway coz the fighting part is nice so after watching I find it quite nice because I didn’t really put much expectation in it and it turns out well, whereas movies that I place high expectations wasn’t what I expected and just felt disappointed. Movies like Harry Potter: half blood prince I find it quite disappointed not because I have read the book but because I wanted to see more. Some very distinct comparison is movies that can be watched in 3D. Seriously Prince of Persia - The sands of time really disappoints me because I spend more money watching it 3D and the only thing that is 3D Is the CHINESE SUBTITLE so I can conclude that the different media does makes a difference in watching experience.

Transrealism

Transrealism is a mixture of techniques use in Science Fiction, the technique used can create a naturalistic realism meaning it could just take the readers away from reality. Transrealism literature is close to surrealism and also abit of the slipstream. From what i read from the The Transrealist manifesto it states that transrealism is not so much of science fiction and more like a history literature. A transrealist novel can't be written with a outline, writers can only choose characters, time, setting and key scenes and mostly that comes out of it doesn't make sense as we know when we read a book and it's predictable there is not much of an interest, the reason why the content doesn't make sense because life itself doesn't.

The library of babel, in this library which we can't possibly find on earth has all the unlimited number of books. Isnt it just interesting, though i am not the type that read all kinds of books and sometimes i even find books boring well maybe because i didn't know them well enough but it i were there i'll probably gone mad too seeing all the books surrounding me. Even though there's answer in this library and time we spent reading everybook we probably can't unless we have immotality. But the question is even though the library books has answer for everything meaning all the contents/books are all truth and if that's the case i would like to find out alot of things like dragons, vampires, ghost, immotality, plenty more.

The Circular Ruins is quite interesting after reading the story of it i kind of think that well some people say that humans are made by Nu wa and some says that we are made by god so does that mean that there are actually 2 god or more making humans? so chinese are all made by nu wa and those foreigner are all made by god? anyway, so we are made by gods and what made god? they don't just born out of a stone like monkey king.

I watched a few shows before that is kind of similar to this story, one of it is the movie Gamer where the prisoner was controled by real humans called slayers to play a game, This game aint fake because if the slayers isn't good enough the players in the game dies of real death. And to successfully get out of the prison the players must win a number of rounds inorder to gain freedom, the only bad thing was that the players are not suppose to choose people that control them but the control player gets to choose. It's like playing with human life.


Sometimes thoughts came to me when i'm playing the sims by controlling the sim to do what i want them to do so does that mean that i am being controlled as well to do things that i didn't want to do? or am i being programmed that even if i didn't want to do it i will still do it? well we never know what's out there beyond the universe and

slipstream
slipstream is a kind of non realisic fiction that is said to be the fiction of strangness. slipstreams falls between mainstream fiction and fiction. slipstream creates a world where things does not make sense as well, one of the movie that i think doesn't make sense was Alice in the wonderland where alice falls from the rabbit hole into an unknown world where flowers and speak and caterpillar that smokes.

Comparing
Science Fiction are mostly base on technology and even though it may or maynot be real it is still counted as theoretically possible for it to happen and fantasy are mostly base on magic though the rules and laws has been bend.

Transrealism and slipstream are similar in a sense that they disconnects with reality and context doesn't make sense but transreal uses fantasy that merges the thoughts of the author's perspective of the world in his mind.

while merging transrealism with fantasy it gives people a different feeling like a world of nothing created by magic. Merging different genre can create different feelings and it just gets interesting as it is said to not make any sense and unpredictable that captures people's mind.

Horror Splatter

The strongest feelings among our emotions are fear, fear is something that can trigger even in broad day light, we fear things that we can't see or things that is less likely to happen. Fear was triggered either by being surprise or childhood memories. I was once told by my parents when i'm young that if i am not obedient the apunehneh will come and catch me away, seriously everything the garang guni walks pass i will hide and dare not come out, i find it very funny now that i think back. When we watch a horror movie we know that the things we are going to watch is going to keep us from sleeping at night as we will imagine and when sounds were heard we will get super paranoid and hide under our blanket. Why do people like to watch horror movies? Because it's thrilling people likes the feeling of being scared? or maybe they just want to watch it with girls so that they can be grabbed by them?(for male)

Well i did a research on why people like to watch horror movies and i found that the study is being conducted by Eduardo Andrade and Joel B. Cohen, argueing about the reason why people like watching scary movies is that it is a way to experience both positive and negative emotions simultaneously. while experiencing the nagative emotions and also experiencing positive emotions this may reinforce the need to continue to watch horror films.

Splatter is a need when you watch movies that shows blood splattering when the character is being cut. This makes the movie more realistic and also gives abit of thrill to people and that is also why these kind of movies have rates as well. I'm not really into horror movies but will watch one or two sometimes, i ever watched a funny horror movie about chinese vampires and a family ghost. One of which is a hong kong show by sammi My Left eye sees ghosts. While the different between horror shows and games is that while in game you would tend to just pause there and not move because your're afraid that something might pop up and scares you but in movie you can't really stop the show unless your watching from a DVD at home.

I think that the only thing that scares people in movie is the surround sound effect because i tried watching a horror movie without sound at home, though it's not as thrilling as it is you can still have a little bit of "what is going to happen/come out next" thoughts. When we talk about unexplainable phenomena the only thing we could do was feel scared because basically we can't see them and i have heard a few rumours about ghost disturbing beings.

Experience:
well i have had experience once before when i'm in china for a holiday trip, it was early in the morning when my sis was bathing and i slept first so at first i heard people knocking on the drawer behind me several times thinking that it was my sister i throw my temper and turned back but there was no one and i could hear the shower going so i went back to sleep but next i heard a sound calling "OI" and this time i really heard it and scolded something coz i really hate people disturbing me from my sleep but once again there was no one so woke up and switched on the TV to stop myself from thinking further. This is totally not like any other horro movies i've watch before and i am not really that scared.

There is only one horror games i've played before which is Silent Hill on PSP and it really scares me because everytime i enter a shop it's all pitch black and i would tend to stop awhile before moving, i didn't manage to complete the game because i reached a place and monsters keep chasing after me and i just kept running in circles didn't know where to go feeling frustrated i quitted the game. hahaha

From my point of view i think that horror movies that are happened usually at home is the most scariest one or maybe like what we have seen is the same thing as what people in the movie seen and maybe we'll be curse too? a few examples like The Ring where the video tape was being watched and soon later the phone rings so imagine you're watching The Ring Movie at the cinema and as the phone in the show rings, your phone rings along with it. It will definately make you jump haha.. One show that is said to be true is the Paranormal Activity about this house is said to live a demon and this couple wanted to take down the video of this demon and failed but get themselves into trouble. The ending is said to be false as there are 3 alternate endings.

These kind of ghost horror is different from gore horror, for gore horror there is usually a serial killer which is unknown and starts killing people like Scream, chucky and Saw, this kind of shows really gives people the thrill shouting "quick run run run" and get anxious for the main characters. I really like shows where you can see the main character fighting with the serial killer instead of just running and getting killed. one of the show that i really dislike is quarantine as the reporter keeps screaming and it's because of her that the cameraman and her got killed and didn't even put up a fight. Sometimes shows that are not suppose to be scary are scary, like the Toys Story 1 where the kid disabled the toys and put them together in any combination looks kind of scary to me and most of all it's toys and kids have been playing with barbie dolls and all.


There's really not much difference from watching a chinese vampire and a english vampire show well the only different is that the english vampire can hide their tooth and they looked just like any other normal being while the chinese vampires are made by dead corpse and there will be this man that put a tailsmen on their head and made them jump and transfer them from one place to the other. There is always one vampire that is super strong and powerful but something stupid about the chinese vampires is that you just have to hold your breathe and they can't find you i mean isn't it weird? well it is said that the human Qi plays an important role for chinese. Even if the chinese vampires are afraid of tailsmen there's no way a strong vampire will be afraid of just some papers. When we watch vampires shows like van helsing we know that vampires is not afraid of crosses except for holy water i guess and sun light? maybe? Well you can try holding ur breathe if you met one the next time? haha Ok so as long as a chinese vampire bites or use his claw you turned into a vampire as well and i watch a show saying about if you place the person that got bitten by vampires you just have to let him/her stepped on the rice for like 3 days or so it might help him to force the poison out.

For a english vampire to change a human into vampire they have to input their own blood into the normal human being and so they becomes one with them. Isn't the biting part similar to zoombies? they bite you and you turned into one of the undead.

Hmm never liked zoombies because it's human beings and well you see humans everywhere so imagine there really is a virus that turns humans into zoombies and i guess it will be the end for singapore since it's small. =D

I find that using an object in movies is a success for movie makers for example there's a lot of shows using puppets/dolls and since then alot of people will be afraid of dolls. For me i think clowns are very scary after it is being used in most of the shows, now that they look super creepy to me if i see one on the street. I remembered watching a doll show called Chucky and it really freaks me out because it moves and kills people, so when i see the chucky model at plaza singapura i try to avoid it or would not enter the shop at all.

Fiction and SciFi

Fiction comes from the latin word fictum meaning 'created' so from this we know that fiction is of total opposite of reality as it is created and not true at all. There are three main elements of Fiction which is the Plot, Characters and place/time

Plot which is the storyline
Characters such as the protagonist, antagonist and supporting characters
Place/time is the era where the story take place

Science Fiction means to have a science base like alien worlds, time travel, spacecrafts and robots etc. Films that are Science Fiction are usually base on political issues or social issues.

Movie example of aliens is the show District 9 where the main character wikus contacted the virus and is beginning to mutate into an alien seek refuge in district 9 and and found Christopher and Wikus decides to help him because christopher promise to cure him if he help him. Canister was successfully stolen and people from the MNU has been pursueing them but later learnt that christopher need to go back to the mothership and come back 3 years later to help him. Feeling anxious and angry he decides to take off to the mother ship but were hit by a rocket laucher, in the end decides to help christopher board the mothership and kill off all MNU who is pursueing christopher from reaching the motherboard.

Movies example for time travel like Click where this guy has this super cool remote controller and is able to fast forward time, Butterfly Effect where the guy go back time to change his past unhappy events but wasn't happy so he went back again however everytime he changes events from the past he made it worse when he comes back to the future.

Anime too has time travel like the recent ones i've watch called The girl who leap through time, its about this girl who met this guy that comes from the future and there is only a limited no. of time he can leap through time and an accident occured when she hit a nut looking object and has the ability to leap through time as well so her last leap was to go back to the past inorder to help the guy she likes that comes from the future to leap back to his own world.

Here are the different kinds of conflicts that you can see in movies/books

Characters vs Self: this cases in the characters has to find out who he/she is and come to realise it themselves. one movie example where everyone might know is Resident Evil Alice Project where she is made with duplicate clones and every now and then the clone will wake up and escape, well not easily because they set traps in the laboratory and everytime the clone died she will be added to the trash full of 'alice' dead bodies. But something surprising was everytime the previous alice died the next one will know where are the traps are and are able to dodge it they didn't espect the clones to have a little of the real alice's memories.

Person vs person: This case is quite similar because its just about one human fighting the other, be it a protagonist vs antagonist or vampires Vs the werewolves

Person vs. Society: this is often from the main character's point of view as how he fights the society while the other party will feel that this is just like a person vs. person case. One movie example would be the show Matrix where we all know that the main character Neo fights against the Agents.

Person vs. Nature: this is something like a person fight against the nature like natural disaster. Movies like The Day After Tomorrow, The Day the Earth moved, Knowing, 2012, Tornado, Twister etc. These shows are quite scary and some people will just leave the cinema when the show just boardcast half way because it's really something that people will not wish to see maybe because they have been through it and didn't want to remember it. Even shows that are related to zoombies are also categorise in it like I am Legend, Qurantine, Daybreakers, Doomsday etc.

Person vs. Supernatural: Example of movies like ghost whisperer, six sense, ghostbuster, Supernatural etc. The word Supernatural comes from the latin word supra "above" and natura "nature". The supernatural meant that it is something unexplainable by natural law or phenomena.

Person vs. Machine/Technology: Movies that are closely related to humans and machines like the iRobot, Artificial Intelligents (AI), Terminator and Star Wars

FairyTale

Myths is something that relates the past to the present. Legends are stories told in realistic mode and contain rumors that made people believe it and most importantly the stories contains moral value. Fairy tales are usually passed down from generation to generation while there may be changes and also it is a way of expressing moral value.

One of a show i watched is the Myths Busters where they use their knowledge and technology to test out the myth that people come across and see if it really can happen. A few that i have memories of is that a pirate captain uses Cheese as canon ball and seriously it worked. The movie Wanted has a scene where they can make bullets curve when flying out and it has been tested as well and was busted. there are other interesting myth as well like making a boat out of newspaper and still be able to sit in it and go for a ride, what is interesting wasn't the things that the myths busters test out, what is interesting is when they made it happen.

Fairytale are bedtime story that we all know and well there's a movie called Bedtime Stories and it is quite interesting because the stories that they made up becomes real in reality. For other fairytale that we know of from disney are from other people's stories like the three little pigs, little mermaid from Hans Christian Andersen. From what we know is that three little pigs manage to escape from being eating but the truth is that the first two pigs were eaten and for little mermaid, she of cause didn't get to be with her prince charming as she turned into bubbles as she is unable to kill the prince with the dagger.

These stories arechanged because it's for children and it would be best if there are less violent essence in them and more happy endings. Everyone loves happy endings so for disney shows it always has happy endings. Well stories always has a moral and it only shows how we see the story, some people may not be able to catch the moral of the story for example the original version of three little pigs and the latest version the moral of the story is to do things as well as you can and build a strong foundation. well the one from disney did show this aspects but no as strong as the original story because we all know the three little pigs are brothers so they all know that building a strong foundation is important but they are just too lazy and end up being eating up by the big bad wolf but we can't possibly have kids learn about killing as this also serve as a bad influence on kids and that is why movies are rated as well like M18, M16 etc..

Fantasy

Movies that are Fantasy usually comes from either comic book or story books, It is said that we need to see inorder to create fantasy, and to coexist Imitation and Fantasy language is needed. One fine example is the movie Avatar. The world is so different from ours and the language that they speak is different. The only way to communicate with them is to be them. Someone invented and duplicate their appearance with the real persons face and implant the person's mind or soul into the avatar. Even if you went in the avatar there is no way you will know how to speak their language, the only reason why you were in the avatar is to get closer to the tribe so that you can know them better and also get to know the things they are here for, the minerals.

Fantasy is all about magic and does magic exist in this world? People that pray makes magic, how about those times when hitting paper doll was popular? Is it a black magic or was it just a fraud? It is said that hitting and scolding a paper doll will put a curse on that person but what actually true is that it's just a toy for you to vent your anger on. Heard of black magic when we went to thailand, didn't know how it works. well one of the magic that people love is magic show, it creates illusion and it all actually adds up to be tricks. One of the show that i like to watch on the TV is the channal U Magic Show where the participant in taiwan is suppose to perform a magic show and be judge to sit on the top magicians crown but all those that i saw wasn't as interesting as a Taiwan Magician Lu Chen, and also our most well known magician David copperfield. I was once into magic and it realy is fun and mysterious.

In reality when we speak of magic the thing that is actually happening is skills, if a magician isn't skilled enough then he would show case his tricks to people and it will not look mysterious anymore. While in game when magic is spoke of it will meant that the player needs Mana/Qi and this Mana/Qi gives them ability to use magic like some sort of energy.

Heroes

Heroes are fake, practically if you ask me hero exist because of us as we made stories for them well i should say heroes express a deep psychological aspects of human beings. Some times when we are in trouble we would be wondering if it can be solve easier if we have super powers or when we are super man. Stories made heroes interesting, who love a character that has no stories? Heroes be it in stories or movies gives us space for imagination. Kids watch Power Ranger and eventually when the markets sell toys like cool power ranger gadgets the kids would believe that they can be power ranger if they buy it and as they grow older they found out that it's all fake haha, well even for me as i used to watch sailor moon with my sister and get the pen that transform her and found out it's fake haha.. well i guess toys helps kids to have imagination and be creative in all ways.

Kids will definately hate the bad guys because they love the good guys so much they could just throw a thing at the TV when the bad guys appears well if you thought that kids does that and it's childish well if you ever watch those taiwan drama even as an adult you would probably do the same thing haha.. Seriously but without the bad guys how do you made the good guy looks good? Sometimes a bad guy can also have the same mind set of the good guys but the only difference is that the good guys are doing what people thinks is right and gets supported instantly. I guess it's a good thing that heroes ain't real because it would be a disaster if Japan's Gozilla, Ultra man, power ranger and US hulk, Superman, Spiderman etc. all comes to action super chaotic even worse than having war. Heroes powers are what people imagine they had, for me i use to like powers like time control, healing and mental Control haha there are other as well. Now that i think about it Mind control may not be impossible since people can play chess mentally.

There's a few abilities that the show Heroes is boardcasting:

Claire Bennet has the power of regenaration and nothing can kill her and to even test out her abilities she even record herself suiciding with different ways and still manage to stand up not to mention when her bones broke out and she push it in and it regenerates and also cutting off her pinky toe and well it regenerates. It is cool and yet disgusting. The only thing that stopped her from regenerating is when something got stuck in her head/back of the neck but once the thing got removed she starts regenerating again. She just gains immotality and i think everyone wants immotality.

Peter Petrelli has the power of Absobtion when he is near any other heroes he gains their ability as well

Hiro Nakamura has the ability to teleport and discover the killer that killed his dad but it kills his brain cells when he used it too much.

Isaac Mendez has the ability to draw the future he did foresee that he is going to die but he just couldn't do anything. Maybe people will think that seeing the future is cool and that they could change the future but it would be hard to see yourself dying and still able to stand up against it.

One of the interesting characters that people can greatly relate to is Sylar a serial killer in show, he was told that he has special powers since young and he greatly believes in it until oneday his master found out that he has none and felt extremely angry and soon he found out that he actually did had the ability to fix clocks even those super old type so decides to hunt down the other heroes and steal their powers. He kill them and took a part of the brain tissue that consists that powers and inject into his own own.

From True Blood
Sookie Stackhouse has the ability to hear people thoughts and it's giving her a hard time even though she can control whether she wants to listen or not but well she's in love with a vampire because she can't hear his thoughts. Everyone hate vampires and didn't approve her to be with him even though he is nice, in this show it show us that vampires are not afraid of crosses










Archetypes
Thinking of which heroes archetypes i am somehow i just didn't quite fit in so i thought of doing a archetypes quiz to see which one i am and this is the result.

Warrior

The Warrior defeats the villain and rescues the victim. Warriors are courageous and disciplined, imposing high standards on themselves. At worst, they run roughshod over others. At best, they assert themselves appropriately to make the world a better place.

well after looking at the results i did think life as competitive but not to the extend that i want to gain power from it haha.. never thought i would be a super hero that defeats villians i guess the only villian i ever defeated is my laziness haha and i tend to discipline myself to do work or else nothing will come out. I think that i have a little of Orphan that is realistic and practical, i am not practical in a way that if doing something doesn't benefits me i won't even do it.

Before i was a Warrior and Orphan i use to be Innocent, well i think everyone starts out as innocent and the only problem is that whether you changes or not. Being a warrior wasn't so bad as i thought since the world is quite competitive and if it gives me motivation to do better.
